The students of the Faculty of Law were familiarized with the activity of the NCPDP
The students of the Faculty of Law of Moldova State University were familiarized with the mission of the National Center for Personal Data Protection. The event took place online on the zoom platform where over 50 students were present.
NCPDP employees explained to them which are the most frequently used personal data. These are first name, surname, address, telephone number, e-mail address, location data, IP address, marital status, face photo, habits and preferences, online identifiers and any other data related to physical, physiological, economic, cultural or social identity that can be used to identify directly or indirectly a natural person.
The representatives of NCPDP spoke to students about the legislation and EU experience regarding personal data protection, ascertained cases of personal data processing, the procedures related to the registration of personal data controller and about contravention cases and the consequences of the non – compliant personal data processing.
The students asked questions to NCPDP employees regarding the personal data protection by mobile phone operators, mobile applications, but also about various situations, which concern the legal possibility to disclose personal data of other persons and to transmit personal data to third parties / recipients.
NCPDP informs that personal data of other persons may be processed, if these data are necessary for the achievement of a legal purpose. You can transmit personal data independently when this is necessary for the fulfillment of certain obligations, or when this fact is provided by law, for example, provide the home address of an online store to deliver the order, the identity card to confirm the age when you buy alcohol in a store, provide personal data to a hospital to receive treatment. At the same time, you can transmit personal data to the court to defend your rights. In general, the volume and categories of data transmitted should not exceed the established purpose.
NCPDP conducts investigations on cases of violation of personal data protection legislation, with or without going out on the spot, determines the compliance of personal data processing, supervises compliance with personal data protection legislation, notifies the law enforcement bodies in case of existence of indications on the commission of offenses related to the infringement of the rights of personal data subjects and applies sanctions according to the competences and attributions established by law.
