History
– With the adoption of the Law no.17-XVI of the 15th of February 2007 on personal data protection (however repealed on April 14, 2012 with the entry into force of the Law no.133 of the 8th of July 2011 on personal data protection) the authority responsible for the control over compliance of personal data processing in the Republic of Moldova became the National Center for Personal Data Protection.
– The Regulation of the National Center for Personal Data Protection, structure, staff-limit and its financial arrangements was approved by the Law no.182-XVI of the 10th of July 2008, hence being established the supervisory body for personal data processing. Pursuant to these laws, the Center obtained the status of an autonomous public authority, independent of other public authorities, natural persons and legal entities, whose objective is to protect the fundamental freedoms and rights of natural persons, especially the right to private life regarding the processing and cross border transfer of personal data.
– By the Parliament Decision of the Republic of Moldova no.233-XVI of the 13th of November 2008 Mr. Vitalie PANIȘ was appointed as the Director of the National Center for Personal Data Protection (by the Parliament Decision no. 63 of the 08th of April 2016 was established the cessation of his position as Director of the National Center for Personal Data Protection due to expiry of the term for which he was appointed)
– By the Parliament Decision of the Republic of Moldova no.08 of 3rd of February 2009 Mr. Vasile FOLTEA was appointed as the Deputy Director of the National Center for Personal Data Protection (by the Parliament Decision no.36 of the 21st of March 2014 was established the cessation of his position as Deputy-Director of the National Center for Personal Data Protection due to expiry of the term for which he was appointed).
– By the Parliament Decision of the Republic of Moldova no. 64 of 8th April, 2016, Mr. Eduard Răducan was appointed as the Director of the National Center for Personal Data Protection for a term of 5 years;
– On the 29th of November, 2018, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova with the votes of 53 deputies appointed Mrs. Victoria Muntean, as deputy Director of the National Center for Personal Data Protection, for a term of 5 years;
– On the 8th of July, 2011, was adopted the Law no. 133 on personal data protection, in force since April 14, 2012.
– By the Parliament Decision of the Republic of Moldova no. 224 of 23 of December 2021, Mrs. Victoria Muntean was appointed as the Director of the National Center for Personal Data Protection for a term of 5 years.
– By the Parliament Decision of the Republic of Moldova no. 16 of 3th February 2022, Mrs. Angela Colomiicenco was appointed as the deputy Director of the National Center for Personal Data Protection for a term of 5 years.
