Launch of the video marking the entry into force of the new Law on personal data protection
The National Centre for Personal Data Protection (NCPDP) announces the launch of a public awareness video, produced in the context of the entry into force, on 23 August 2026, of Law No. 195/2024 on personal data protection.
The new law establishes a modern and coherent legal framework in the field of personal data protection, with the aim of strengthening the protection of individuals’ fundamental rights and freedoms in relation to the personal data processing, as well as establishing clear rules and appropriate responsibilities for controllers and processors in the processing such data.
In this context, the video aims to inform and raise public awareness of the new legal provisions and the importance of respecting the right to personal data protection. It presents, in an accessible manner, issues relevant to citizens and organisations, including what constitutes personal data, examples of such data, the rights of data subjects, and the responsibilities of those who collect and process this data.
At the same time, the document highlights the need for a responsible approach to personal data processing, including compliance with legal requirements, ensuring data security and confidentiality, and taking appropriate measures to prevent and manage any security incidents.
By publishing this document, the NCPDP aims to support the process of informing the public, controllers and data subjects with the provisions of the new legal framework, thereby helping to raise awareness of the importance of personal data protection and to promote a culture of responsibility in this area.
The entry into force of Law No. 195/2024 represents an important step in strengthening the national framework for personal data protection, and a proper understanding and application of the new provisions are essential to ensuring an adequate level of protection for individuals’ fundamental rights and freedoms.
The video was produced by the NCPDP, with the support of the regional project „Public Administration Reform in the Eastern Partnership Countries”, implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
